What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is merely a change in mental state, induced by suggestion, a
relaxed state of focused attention. Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnotism for
theraputic purposes. Many people do not realize that hypnosis is a tool that
has been developed over centuries, and that its effectiveness is supported
by numerous scientific studies. Over the past century, hypnosis has been
used by many reputable and conventional medical professionals, including the
Mayo brothers of Mayo Clinic fame!
What Hypnosis is Not
Contrary to many popular portrayals, hypnosis is not sleep.
It is not unconsciousness.
It is not giving up control. You cannot be forced to do anything
under hypnosis.
How a Hypnotherapy Session Works
When you are in a hypnotherapy session, I guide you into a deep state of
relaxation, a mental space in which we can work together on your chosen
issues. However, it is up to you how far into hypnosis you will go. I can
only guide you; I cannot force you into hypnosis.
You will remain aware of both yourself and what I am saying, while you are
under hypnosis. However, you will be so relaxed that you will probably lose
the desire to move or pay attention to anything but the issues we are
working on during our session.
While you are under hypnosis, you can accept or reject anything that I say.
If I say something that is in line with your beliefs or desires, you may
accept it. However, if I tell you something that seems unacceptable to you,
you can reject it. Hypnosis cannot be used to brainwash you, since you are
ultimately the master of your own mind.
In layman’s terms, hypnosis is the clinical use of the power of positive
thinking to correct and heal mental, physical, and emotional issues,
according to your personal expectations.
In scientific terms, hypnosis is a method of a mental programming.
To be more precise, a hypnotic state is an altered state of highly
focused consciousness in which the conscious or aware mind is bypassed and
the subconscious mind (below conscious perception) is accessed directly.
The subconscious mind is far more powerful than the
conscious mind. It is the seat
of all of your stored experiences and knowledge. Through it, you can access
memories, emotions, and events suppressed or repressed by your conscious
mind. In fact, your subconscious
mind can reveal facts and information that you might think you’ve lost or
forgotten, revealing the root cause of feelings, behaviours, and attitudes.
These, in turn, can be strengthened, modified or eliminated according to
your needs.
What Conditions Can Be Treated with Hypnosis?
I have noticed that I have tremendous success helping people who are dealing
with issues such as job loss and career changes, nail biters who want to
drop the habit, and women trying to overcome menstrual problems, which could
include menstruation-related pain.
I also help people improve their self-esteem, overcome eating disorders, or
aid in addiction treatment (such as for alcoholism).
These are just a few examples of issues that can be successfully treated by
hypnosis. Since the connection between the mind and body is extremely
powerful (and vital), any number of problems, physical or mental, can be
addressed with hypnotherapy.
Hypnosis has even been known to help people overcome
problems such as infertility or insomnia, conditions that seem more like
physical problems than mental ones. However, since the brain is the center
for processing the signals of health or pain, hypnosis is highly relevant
when treating physical issues.
Is Hypnosis Right for Me?
Hypnosis is most helpful when you have difficulty changing a habit or
gaining access to the parts of your memory you normally can’t access.
Hypnosis can help you stop smoking, lose weight, overcome fears, or
reverse mental and physical problems.
It can help you see how negative habits have been drawn into your
life, and how you can change them.
If you have a habit or a phobia that you’d like to be freed from,
hypnotherapy is a good, scientifically backed way of treating it.
Hypnotherapy can also help in dealing with problems relating to
interpersonal relationships, anger, stress, anxiety, nail biting, and much
more. Hypnosis-induced
self-persuasion is a powerful tool that can help you learn faster, advance
your career, improve athletic performance, manage pain, or succeed in sales.
The list of possibilities for hypnotherapy is truly endless.
I can also teach you the secrets of self-hypnosis,
enabling you to not only progress on your own, but continue to create and
experience ongoing dramatic results for yourself.
What Impact Will It Have?
Hypnosis allows you to access specific areas of your conscious and/or
subconscious.
Gaining that access can generate tremendous impact on your life. Using
hypnosis is a powerful tool in helping you to stop smoking, to lose weight,
or to handle whatever fears and phobias are troubling you. With the aid of
hypnosis, you convince yourself that you can achieve the results that you
desire.
Hypnosis, when used for memory regression, can be
life-changing. It allows you to explore how and why past relationships or
past lifetimes relate to your present day experiences - both positively and
negatively.
Hypnosis Produces Results!
The American Medical Association (AMA) has recognized hypnosis as a
beneficial treatment for well over four decades. In a review of literature
published in Psychotherapy magazine (Volume 7, Number 1, Alfred A Barrios,
PhD), various techniques were profiled. The results were as follows.
Success rates with lasting results:
·
hypnosis—93% after six sessions
·
behavioural therapy—72% after 22 sessions
·
psychotherapy—38% after 699 sessions!
